| Bringing
Green to Every Neighborhood in Columbus |
|
 |
 |
|
As we
move forward towards a greener Columbus, it is important
that every neighborhood be included in our efforts. Many of
the initiatives we are working on make Columbus more
liveable - - and these improvements should be widely
distributed. Some of our efforts to date:
- Starting in 2007, the City, SWACO and the Columbus Public
Schools will be installing a free recycling drop-off box at
every Columbus Public School. This will bring free recycling
to virtually every neighborhood in the City, as well as
helping our children learn the good habit of recycling.
- In the next five years, we will see the fabric of our
neighborhoods connected by trails and sidewalks - - over 48
City Parks, 7 Metroparks, 2 major reservoirs, and 6 suburban
communities will be tied into the Columbus Greenway Network.
Most Columbus residents will live within a few minutes of
this linear park system.
- The City is building green housing and green buildings in
several locations. This includes the City’s first green
neighborhood, Greenview Estates, located ---; a new police
substation near OSU; and a fire station and health center on
the West side.
